Hey Jose! Share with us what a typical day in your role looks like.
Certainly! My day usually starts with a daily developers’ stand-up where we review progress and discuss challenges. Then, I dive into coding and collaborate with business analysts or UI/UX designers to refine requirements. I also assess the technical feasibility of client requests through meetings. My day then wraps up with more coding and administrative tasks to ensure projects are on track.

Can you share more about your work with cloud technologies?
Essentially, we help organisations transition existing workloads to cloud platforms like Amazon Web Services (AWS), where their operations can benefit from better stability, enhanced security and scalability. For instance, my team and I recently completed the migration of Singapore’s Public Utilities Board’s Intelligent Water Management System (IWMS) to the cloud, and we are now adding new features that can enhance its functionality. 

How does your work at ST Engineering align with your passion?
As part of the Missions Software and Systems team within ST Engineering’s Digital Systems business, I get to channel my passion for creating impactful software into something tangible. Our work isn't just about coding – it's about building solutions that have real-world, positive effect on people’s lives. For example, my efforts on the IWMS support critical operations in Singapore. Such projects feel incredibly fulfilling and motivate me to keep pushing the boundaries of what software can do.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received that guides your work?
The best advice I've ever received is: “If the processes in place are sound and good, we can be sure that the result will be sound and good.” This has been a guiding principle in my work, driving me to establish robust processes, not just for me but also for my team. Having solid foundations in our work processes ensures that the final product will meet the high standards we set for ourselves.
