Finding Purpose in Cloud Computing

From intern to cloud engineer, Yeong Hui Ting’s time with us has been a journey of transformation, both for herself and the businesses she supports. Starting in front-end development, she followed her curiosity into cloud computing - where she now drives digital innovation. She reflects on how she built her career at ST Engineering and how she helps our customers shape the future with cloud technology.  

Q: Hi Hui Ting! Take us through a day in your life at work.
As a Cloud Technical Manager, I work closely with our pre-sales team to identify new opportunities, scope project requirements, and develop strategic roadmaps for new functionalities. Once a project is secured, I lead my team in designing and delivering cloud solutions tailored to our customers’ needs—ensuring they achieve agility, scalability, and security in their digital transformation.

Q: What has your journey at ST Engineering been like?
The past eight years have been quite the adventure! While I started off in mobile app development, I became increasingly curious about how operational systems function at the backend. So when an opening became available in the Cloud Professional Services team, I seized the chance to make the transition and have enjoyed helping businesses advance in their digital transformation ever since!

Q: How do you leverage tech to shape the future at ST Engineering?
Automation plays a key role in our work. We deploy automation scripts and tools that streamline workflows, optimise cloud performance, and enhance our efficiency. To ensure that we stay ahead of emerging trends and advancements from cloud providers, I also actively attend webinars and industry virtual events. This ensures that we bring the latest, cutting-edge solutions to our customers.

Q: What’s been the most rewarding part about your work?
The diversity of challenges! Each project comes with its own unique architecture and deployment requirements. Whether it’s transitioning a complex on-premises infrastructure to the cloud or building a virtual environment from the ground up, no two projects are ever the same. As someone who enjoys experimenting with new concepts in cloud computing, this keeps my work dynamic and fulfilling.

Q: What is one thing you’ve learned about ST Engineering that you’d like to share with others?
That ST Engineering is far more than just a defence company! Since joining, I’ve discovered that we are a global technology, defence, and engineering leader with a strong presence in commercial sectors such as urban solutions and digital technologies. It’s inspiring to be part of an organisation that is shaping industries and making an impact through its diverse innovations.
