Ong Jie Jun, an Engineer from our Marine business’ Environmental Engineering Services team, reflects on the opportunities he has embraced while pursuing a fulfilling career that furthers sustainability with us.

Q: Hey Jie Jun! What got you into Environmental Engineering?

I chose to pursue environmental engineering because of my passion for developing sustainable solutions to address complex environmental challenges. I believe that this field holds a pivotal role in tackling global environmental issues, and I’m personally motivated to make a meaningful impact. Through my work, at ST Engineering I can participate in real-world projects that directly contribute to enabling a more sustainable future.

Q: Tell us more about the work you do.

As part of Water and Steam Cycle team on the Integrated Waste Management Facilities (IWMF) Project, I design and optimise systems that manage water and steam within waste management facilities.  Essentially, I blend science and creativity to design advanced solutions with efficient and sustainable processes!

Q: What excites you most about working on sustainable engineering projects?

The dynamic and innovative culture at ST Engineering gives me room to explore new ideas and work on diverse projects with other teams. I get to contribute to groundbreaking research and development initiatives such as transforming wastewater treatment to be more efficient by eliminating or reinventing conventional procedures.  I find it incredibly rewarding to be able to contribute to advancements in sustainable engineering! 

Q: What advice do you have for those looking to succeed in this field?

Develop a good mix of critical skills. Analytical abilities and problem-solving skills areessential in helping you overcome challenges and achieve project milestones. Gain technical expertise in areas like water and waste management to empower you to develop innovative solutions that not only meet industry standards but also align with sustainability goals.
