Forecasting for Excellence in Aviation

Forecasting for Excellence in Aviation

As the world’s largest third-party aircraft MRO service provider, we provide comprehensive aircraft lifecycle solutions to support the exacting needs of fleet operators. Across 10 hangar facilities in Asia Pacific, the U.S., and Europe, our skilled engineers and technicians harness technology to keep aircraft flying safely and efficiently.

Turning his passion for aviation into a fulfilling career, Jack Ng, Senior Project Engineer, Production Planning and Control, takes us through what it’s like to apply innovation to optimise operations and drive excellence in aerospace engineering.

Q: Hello, Jack! Tell us more about your role.

I work as a forecast planner at our airframe MRO facility, where we maintain and repair both passenger and freighter aircraft. My role involves organising workloads for the months and years ahead, ensuring we have the necessary resources to meet project deadlines and deliver on our commitments. This helps steer short to medium-term logistical planning for our operations.

Q: How are you leveraging technology to enhance your work?

I apply automation scripts to improve efficiency in my forecasting and planning. For example, I can now extract data on past shortages and surpluses with a single click, allowing us to quantify resource gaps quickly. My team and I are also exploring the use of Robotic Process Automation technologies to seamlessly access a broader range of data, which will improve how we assess future work scopes and optimise our planning process.

Q: What do you enjoy most about the work you do?

As my role puts me in a position to collaborate with teams across different functions, including Marketing, Production, Planning, and Quality, I’ve enjoyed being able to learn from diverse perspectives while seeing collaborative efforts come together to address our customers’ needs. Knowing that our work directly impacts flight schedules and critical deliveries - and helps airlines and cargo carriers operate smoothly - makes the job even more rewarding!

Q: What makes the ST Engineering the perfect place for professional growth?

The strong mentorship and support from my colleagues. Learning to assess aircraft supportability was initially daunting, but my managers took the time to guide me, sharing their expertise and insights during my assignments. Their encouragement helped me navigate the learning curve and understand our operations. Under their guidance, I’ve gained the confidence to take on new challenges and grow in my career.
