Singapore, 10 April 2025 – ST Engineering today announced that the Rapid Transit System Bureau of Taichung City Government has awarded a contract worth about S$1.4b to its Urban Solutions business to provide turnkey rail services for the new Taichung MRT Blue Line. This is part of a broader contract with consortium partners Alstom Transport S.A., CTCI Corporation and Hyundai Rotem Company who will provide the signalling system, power supply system and rolling stock respectively. The contracted scope covers a period of about 14 years and is expected to start in the second quarter of 2025.
ST Engineering Urban Solutions will lead overall project management and systems integration, provide rail electronics including communications system, automatic fare collection system, platform screen doors and SCADA system, and oversee the development of the above-ground train depot. This contract builds on the momentum of ST Engineering Urban Solutions’ current turnkey rail projects, further expanding its rail footprint in Taiwan.

ST Engineering Urban Solutions has a 32-year track record in implementing rail projects in Taiwan, supported by a growing and skilled workforce. Its projects include delivering rail electronics solutions for the Taichung MRT Green Line and providing full turnkey rail services for projects in several Taiwan cities. This latest contract adds to its global track record of over 200 rail projects in more than 50 cities.
The 24.78km fully automated Blue Line comprises eight elevated stations and 12 underground stations. Connecting the east and west of Taichung, the Blue Line will be integrated with the city’s existing Green Line and is poised to enhance the capacity of Taichung’s public transport network when completed.
