Singapore, 5 November 2024 – ST Engineering will present its latest Smart Mobility solutions that are shaping the future of urban mass transit at the LTA-UITP Singapore International Transport Congress and Exhibition (SITCE 2024). Led by its Urban Solutions business, its Smart Mobility showcase features next-generation smart metro and road solutions that optimise operational efficiency, enhance safety and improve travel experiences while contributing to sustainability.
“Mass transit systems play a pivotal role in helping cities decarbonise, and technological advancements present new opportunities for progress in this area. Through combining leading-edge technologies with our deep engineering capabilities, our Smart Mobility solutions enable transportation agencies and operators to effectively address their evolving mobility challenges sustainably while elevating service standards,” said Chew Men Leong, President of Urban Solutions at ST Engineering.
Shaping the Future of Urban Mass Transit
The Smart Mobility showcase spotlights solutions underpinned by advanced technologies including AI, analytics and automation that are poised to shape the future of urban mass transit. Highlights include:
- AGIL® Bus Rapid Transit
AGIL Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) comprises a suite of integrated, digitalised smart mobility solutions that combine the key attributes of metro and bus systems for reliable and cost-effective mass transit. With a shorter implementation time compared to metro systems, AGIL BRT provides high-capacity public transportation that operates on designated lanes on roads, enabling more reliable and seamless journeys that improve the passenger experience while reducing carbon emissions. It provides insights into passenger travel patterns and offers operators greater flexibility in route adjustments to accommodate evolving travel demands or traffic conditions.
- New Three-Door Double-Decker Electric Bus
Making its debut in Singapore, the new three-door double-decker electric bus (e-bus) co-developed by ST Engineering’s Mobility Services business and Zhejiang CRRC Electric Vehicle Corporation Limited (CRRC) prioritises safety, reliability and sustainability. With a commuter-centric design and spacious interior, the three-door and dual-staircase configuration allows swift boarding and alighting, improving passenger flow.
Equipped with some of the latest technologies to ease onboard bus operations, the e-bus features ST Engineering’s AGIL® DriveSafe+ technology, an all-round advanced collision warning system that leverages AI video analytics to provide accurate and reliable detection of potential collisions in blind spots to improve road safety. The e-bus runs on next-generation batteries with improved energy density, delivering an improved range of up to 310km on a full charge. This exceeds the average daily distance travelled by public buses in Singapore. It is also equipped with roof-mounted solar panels that reduce overall power consumption and load on the engine for more energy-efficient journeys.
- Next-generation Smart Metro solutions
The enhanced AGIL® Pay suite of solutions has extended its range of biometric authentication technologies to include contactless palm readers at fare gates and ticketing kiosks. Comprising open and closed loop mobility payment systems with real-time fare and usage visibility, AGIL Pay ensures accurate detection, validation and payment deductions for seamless passenger convenience. To provide a more user-friendly and personalised customer experience, the ticketing kiosk has been updated to include an AI-powered travel journey assistant.
ST Engineering Urban Solutions will also be showcasing its 5G-enabled Smart Metro solutions that leverage the advantages of 5G to enhance rail communications connectivity, operational efficiency and safety.
Training Future Automotive Technical Specialists
Reflecting its commitment to enabling a sustainable land transportation system for a greener future, ST Engineering’s Mobility Services business will be partnering with ITE College West to provide industry-relevant training in advanced automotive engineering systems and technologies for its students. Students will benefit from professional mentorship and internship opportunities at ST Engineering, equipping them with critical technical skills and knowledge as well as real-world experience needed to manage future automotive systems including electric cars and buses.
ST Engineering’s Smart Mobility showcase is at Booth H1, SITCE 2024, 6 - 8 November 2024, at Suntec Singapore Exhibition and Convention Centre, Level 4.
