Wang Shuya, an AI Engineer in the Video Analytics team at our Group Engineering Centre (GEC), is part of the team developing common technology modules that power solutions across sectors and accelerate innovation throughout our organisation.
By harnessing the latest technologies and learning from industry leaders, Shuya pushes the boundaries of what’s possible while showcasing her team’s commitment to crafting versatile capabilities that efficiently address diverse customer needs.
Q: Tell us what you do at work.
I focus on harnessing the latest AI technologies to develop versatile capabilities. By exploring, evaluating and optimising AI models, I help build common technology modules that can be applied across various sectors. This means our work in AI doesn’t just stay within GEC – it powers solutions across the organisation.
Q: How do these common technology modules meet the different business needs across our Group?
Common technology modules allow us to adapt a single solution for multiple applications. For instance, the same modulr we developed for visual recognition can be tailored to different use cases like enhancing security or managing crowd control. Through techniques like parameter tuning and prompt engineering, we adjust these AI capabilities to fit specific needs efficiently. This approach keeps us at the forefront of innovation and enables rapid deployment of powerful, customised AI solutions throughout our Group.
Q: VisionX[1] is one of the modules you’ve worked on. Can you share more about it?
VisionX revolutionises how we search and monitor video streams. With VisionX, users can locate specific footage across multiple CCTV, videos-on-demand, or video archives using just one command. It is also one of the modules powering AGIL® Vision, a solution under our Digital Systems business launched at InnoTech 2023.
Q: What’s it like working with the latest technologies and leaders in the field?
One of the most exciting aspects of my work is the chance to work with cutting-edge technologies and leading tech partners like NVIDIA. The resources we gain from these collaborations enable us to develop state-of-the-art solutions to solve real-world challenges. It’s also incredibly motivating to interact with experts at the top of their fields.
Q: What’s a standout experience from your journey with ST Engineering so far?
Presenting AGIL Vision at NVIDIA’s GTC 2024 was definitely a highlight! We received great feedback and piqued interest from potential partners. Meeting NVIDIA’s CEO, Jensen Huang, was unforgettable – it really affirmed that we’re on a significant path in the tech world.

These large-scale events don’t just expand our network; they also expose us to pioneering technologies and thought leaders. Sharing insights with our team afterwards inspired us to join our Group-wide venture-building business challenge, In.Vent 2024, and apply our learnings in innovative ways.
Q: What are some of the biggest challenges you face as the field evolves rapidly?
AI’s rapid evolution can be challenging, so we’re always assessing new hardware and methodologies to stay relevant.
Bringing new ideas to business teams can also be tricky, as it requires extra effort to showcase how our modules align with their needs. The best way to bridge that gap is by demonstrating how our models fit familiar benchmarks, which helps them envision how our modules are leveraged for their work.
