ST Engineering Partners with Republic Polytechnic and Singapore Polytechnic to Advance GenAI for Cybersecurity Education

Singapore, 16 October 2024 – ST Engineering today announced partnerships with Republic Polytechnic (RP) and Singapore Polytechnic (SP) to advance education and training in Generative AI (GenAI) for cybersecurity for their students, equipping the next generation of cybersecurity professionals with critical skills to address rapidly evolving cybersecurity challenges. Led by its Cyber business, a total of over 600 students from RP’s School of Infocomm and SP’s School of Computing will receive industry-relevant training, access to leading-edge cybersecurity solutions, professional mentorship and internship opportunities over the duration of the collaborations. 

GenAI in cybersecurity represents a paradigm shift in how Security Operations Centre (SOC) analysts predict, detect and respond to threats. As attackers leverage AI/GenAI to advance their attack techniques, tactics and procedures, GenAI is becoming crucial for detecting threat patterns and enhancing the operational efficiency of SOCs. This underscores the need to develop specialised skill sets in this field.

Nurturing the Cybersecurity Talent Pipeline 
Under the partnerships, ST Engineering will co-develop and tailor curricula focused on both cybersecurity and GenAI to meet each polytechnic’s specific training needs. ST Engineering will also offer RP and SP students and staff access to its leading-edge proprietary solutions such as Cyber Co-Pilot, an AI tool that assists SOC analysts and Incident Response investigators to strengthen cyber threat detection and response. Cyber Co-Pilot will also be integrated into both polytechnics’ course curriculum as a standard SOC tool.  

RP and SP students will also have the opportunity to undertake internships and short-term work placements at ST Engineering. This will allow them to gain valuable real-world experience and prepare them for future careers in cybersecurity.

Fostering Hands-On Learning with the GenAI for Cybersecurity Innovation Centre 
Additionally, a GenAI for cybersecurity innovation centre will be jointly established by ST Engineering and RP. To promote hands-on cybersecurity learning, the innovation centre will provide dynamic scenario-based training and project development opportunities, empowering RP students to harness AI-based tools and hone their skills as well as train the broader industry in adopting GenAI for cybersecurity applications. 

Since 2021, ST Engineering’s Cyber business has been actively partnering educational institutions in Singapore, including Temasek Polytechnic and ITE College Central, to equip students with practical cybersecurity skills and knowledge to meet the evolving needs of the industry. To date, over 600 students from Temasek Polytechnic and ITE College Central have been trained.
