Reflecting on his first year with ST Engineering, Joshua Ang, Deputy Head of Products Group and Head of User Experience & Product Support, Land Systems, shares what it’s been like developing future-ready solutions for military and commercial customers worldwide. He shares insights on his experiences, the invaluable lessons he’s carried forward, and the biggest perks about working at ST Engineering.

Q: Hey Joshua, how did you come to join ST Engineering?

After two decades working with the military, I was ready to explore new horizons and develop myself further. ST Engineering, with its global reach and commitment to innovation, provided the perfect opportunity to expand on my experience working with defence technologies while contributing to a wider spectrum of projects.

Q: How have you had to adjust to your new role?

My first year was relatively smooth! Leading the User Experience and Product Support team, I’ve been able to draw upon knowledge in project management, AGILE methodology, risk management, and coaching to effectively carry out my responsibilities.

I’m also grateful to work alongside supportive colleagues who embody ethics, adaptability, and resilience—qualities I truly believe are essential in allowing us to drive progress and tackle challenges head-on as a team.

Q: What are your favourite aspects of working at ST Engineering?

I firmly believe that a culture of teamwork and collaboration promotes success, whether on the battlefield or in the boardroom. Hence, I appreciate that at ST Engineering, contributions from every level of the organisation are not only valued but also leveraged to harness the strengths of each individual.

I also enjoy showcasing our cutting-edge integrated solutions on the world stage, translating 'design-to-cost' principles into practical, impactful outcomes for a large customer base.

Q: What advice would you give to someone navigating a career transition?

Stay hungry for growth. Transitioning into a new environment means embracing change and stepping out of your comfort zone. Learn to spot learning opportunities as they come and welcome challenges—they are the best way to grow personally and professionally.
