ST Engineering Launches World’s First FBG-based Buried Intrusion Detection Solution for Perimeter Security

Instantaneous and accurate detection of footsteps that cross unfenced boundary lines

Singapore, 10 April 2019 — ST Engineering today announced the launch of its new AgilFence Buried Intrusion Detection System (BIDS) that will provide layered protection for critical facilities and enhance border security. AgilFence BIDS is the world’s first buried intrusion detection solution that combines highly sensitive Fibre Bragg grating (FBG) fibre-optic sensors with advanced signal processing algorithms to provide instantaneous and accurate detection of footsteps that cross unfenced boundary lines. It is developed using ST Engineering’s award-winning, state-of-the-art AgilFence technology that has been deployed to safeguard key critical assets globally.

With an intrusion location accuracy of down to three metres and a high detection rate of 90%, AgilFence BIDS is one of the most reliable solutions in the industry. With the ability to secure fenced and unfenced borders without power and electronics in the field over long distances, the AgilFence BIDS has proven capable of enhancing national security and helping agencies ensure continuous delivery of essential services even in challenging environmental conditions.

“The AgilFence BIDS is an advanced technology that is discreet, invisible and cost-effective to manage. Building on our engineering expertise and innovative technologies, we have developed a solution that significantly increases the detection rate of targets walking across the buried cable, and not just along it. Our solution also maintains a near-zero nuisance alarm that can be affected by various environment factors,” said Mr Bernard Lee, Vice President of Area Surveillance and Intrusion Detection, Satcom & Sensor Systems, Electronics, ST Engineering.

The AgilFence BIDS system includes other key features such as:

• Terrain-following capabilities, which remove line-of-sight issues of other Infrared Radiation-based, radar-based and camera-based solutions;
• Instant intrusion detection with pinpoint accuracy to enable immediate counter-action;
• Full scalability from small restricted zones to national borders;
• Lowest false and nuisance alarms in the industry at full sensitivity;
• Adaptability to diverse environments and terrains; and
• Seamless integration with other AgilFence and third-party systems

AgilFence BIDS is the newest addition to ST Engineering’s suite of perimeter protection systems. Since the launch of the AgilFence Perimeter Intrusion Solution (PIDS) in 2011, the AgilFence PIDS has been vigorously field-tested and widely adopted by global security agencies for the protection of high-risk critical national infrastructures, such as national airports, mass rapid transit and train depots. Notable deployments included the Singapore Changi International Airport as well as Eco Glades’ gated residential development in Malaysia.

AgilFence’s state-of-the-art technology has won many international accolades, including the Prestigious Engineering Achievement Award 2013 (Technology Innovation) from The Institution of Engineers Singapore, as well as the ASEAN Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award from the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations. AgilFence had completed testing and evaluation by US-based National Safe Skies Alliance, and secured UK government approval for its PIDS.

The AgilFence BIDS, together with ST Engineering’s holistic suite of Public Safety and Security solutions such as the SERIS C2 Physical Security Information Management Platform (PSIM) and the SECURENET intelligent Security Management System will be on showcase at the ISC West 2019, Las Vegas from 10 to 12 April (booth #28091).
